In 2006, the BC Ferries vessel Queen of the North sank in Wright Sound, killing two passengers. Michel Huot served as one of the lead Crown Counsel on the criminal negligence prosecution of the vessel's fourth officer — one of the most complex and closely watched criminal negligence trials in British Columbia's legal history. The jury trial, completed before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, required sustained preparation across technical navigation evidence, institutional accountability, and the human cost of professional failure.
