Biography
Built in the most demanding courtrooms in BC
Michel Huot spent the first fifteen years of his legal career as Crown Counsel in British Columbia. His work culminated in an appointment to BC's Special Prosecutions Unit — the branch tasked with the province's most complex, sensitive, and high-profile prosecutions.
There, he served as one of the lead Crown on R. v. Lilgert, the criminal negligence prosecution arising from the sinking of the BC Ferries vessel Queen of the North. The trial was one of the most closely watched in British Columbia's legal history, covered nationally by the Globe & Mail, Maclean's, National Post, CBC, CTV, and Global News.
In 2016, Mike moved into private practice to bring that same intensity to civil litigation. He does not run a volume practice. He takes a focused roster of matters in personal injury, commercial litigation, insurance disputes, and civil sexual assault claims — and he sees them through.
Mike is called to the bar in both British Columbia and Alberta, and practises out of his office at 570 Granville Street in downtown Vancouver.
He understands how institutional actors build cases under pressure — because he spent years being one.
